BREAKING: The Ministry of Defence dismissed the Captian who led the Cerro Muriano exercise.

Captain Zúñiga, who led the Cerro Muriano exercise, where two soldiers drowned on 21 December 2023, has been dismissed. The Ministry of Defence has published it in the Official Gazette after the request of the relatives to the Minister of Defence Margarita Robles.

The deceased soldiers were Miguel Angel Jimenez and Carlos Leon. They died after crossing an artificial lake while carrying combat equipment on their backs. The equipment weighed 3.5 kilos.

The Military Career Law provides that "the suspension of functions may be agreed as a consequence of prosecution, indictment or precautionary measure affecting military personnel charged in criminal proceedings for very serious misconduct".
