The police of the town of Malagón in Ciudad Real interrupted a possible wedding between a 12-year-old girl, called María and another 16-year-old man from the town of Granada. Apparently, it was an agreement between both families that was going to be settled with money.
María’s mother requested that her daughter be dropped from school, since according to her, they were moving to another location. María’s surroundings assured the police she used to tell she was tired of receiving bumps from his mother and she wanted to leave her home as soon as possible. That was decisive for the police to start the investigation.
Both the mother and stepfather of the girl were arrested last week after the police checked that their testimonies were false. When they arrested María's step father, he had 3,800 euros in his pocket, which he assured were the result of the olive harvest that took place that day.
Some social welfare procedures are now being carried out. Currently the minor is under the guardianship of the Andalusian government.
