Alexei Navalny, the opposition leader in Russia, was buried past March 1st in Moscow. He died on February 16th, in a Russian prison. His body was handed to his mother one week after.

Thousands of Russians attended to say goodbye, screaming his name and saying they are not scared, carrying candles and flowers while walking to the temple. The ambassadors of the United States, France, Germany and the United Kingdom in Russia also attended the ceremony. Moreover, many believed it could have been a problematic event, however, it was carried out with no trouble.

Nevertheless, Yulia Navalnaya, his wife, was not able to participate as she is currently living in Germany with her children. She shared an emotive video on social media: “Thank you for 26 years of absolute happiness. I don’t know how to live without you, but I’ll try that, up there, you are proud of me.” His mother, however, went to the cemetery a day after his massive funeral in Moscow.

Moreover, many believe it was Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, the one who ordered to kill him, as he attempted against Navalny’s life before, when he was poisoned in 2022. Even though Russian authorities said it happened because of natural causes, the fact that they took so long to hand the body raises suspicions against Putin. Moreover, after his death, his wife, Yulia Navalnaya gave a speech in the European Parliament, raising her voice in favor of her husband, what he defended, and proposing how to act against Putin: “You have to be creative, not boring”.
